God can still speak and he speaks to us through his word, in our spirit, through his prophets and the gifts of the Spirit, and he can also speak in an audible voice. Regardless of how you hear his voice, the important thing is to have the right attitude in your listening to him.
The Word of God says that we should listen ”like one being instructed”, or as the Message translation says: ”as one ready to take orders!” We are not just listening to increase our knowledge, even though that is important. Most of us, however, have a lot more knowledge than we have started to use.
We are called to be disciples! A disciple is different from a pupil in a school. He is concerned to remember what is said, so that he can repeat it in the exam. A disciple is somebody that practically needs to do what he hears. When you ready your Bible every morning, it is important that you listen as ”somebody ready to take orders!” How will you use what you read this morning? What practical works did the words command you to do this day?
We are called to grow in our personal life, and there can be no growth without change. All healthy life grows and is in constant change. What about you and me? Can you see how you grow and changes? If not, maybe it is time to check if you are alive?
Let the life of Jesus in you produce the works that he was doing this day and every day! Listen to his Words ”as somebody ready to take orders!” and live your day practicing it. May God bless your life and your ministry!
