“Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.”
These words Paul was writing to people that had come to faith in Jesus – the church in Ephesus. The faith in Jesus had to show in a good life; otherwise they were still in darkness and under the wrath of God! He makes it very clear by saying: “Let no one deceive you with empty words!” Faith in Jesus alone gives no ticket to heaven or into the Kingdom of God. The important issue is the life itself, the life of Christ in you that drives you to follow him. Paul also makes this clear in Romans 8,14: “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”
If there are things in our lives that are not pleasing to God, the only thing we can do is to give it up and be willing to die from it! Then we pull the blessings and smile of God to come over our lives.
What do you want? You have the choice! Decide today that you want to make it your ambition to please Jesus in everything you do. Turn your back to sin, uncleanness and everything negative, and fill yourself with the word of God and live it daily in a life that is led by the Spirit of God!
