2 Pet 1,3-4 tells me: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
He has given us a life – a new life with divine nature when we escape the “evil desires”. Yes, everything we need for life and godliness we have got as a gift. It is natural for us to live according to the will of God, follow Him, live for Jesus and actually live as Him in this world.
It is strange that people that have experienced this great release from the old life should try again to love the world and the “worldly pleasures”. But in spite of this we meet Christians that make the worldly entertainment be also their entertainment. The Bible is telling us straight forward in James 4,4: “You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
The greatest joy anyone can experience is to be in the Lord presence – joy, happiness and glory both in this life and for eternity! The joy in the Lord is so strong that it is possible to sing song of joy even in the inner cell of prison as Paul and Silas did in Acts 16. And for eternity we are going to rejoice with Jesus and the sound will be like big waterfalls.
This is also why the apostle of love, John, is very clear in his warning in 1st John 2; 15-17: “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.”
We are going to live forever – an eternity in the glory together with Jesus! If we are clear on this perspective of life, our problems in this life becomes small. Even 100 years is like a second, and the time we have got on this earth we have to choose how and where to spend eternity. The choice is up to you and me: A short enjoyment of the worldly pleasures in this life and a burning hell with the devil and his demons for eternity, or a powerful and glorious live after the will of God here and an even more glorious eternity with Jesus! The choice should be easy to make for all of us! Jesus has opened the door and is wishing everyone that chooses him as Lord and Master a heartily welcome!
